I'm including meeting notes of events the bloomers have had since Oct of 2020 to get up to date. </p><p>October 21,2020- Karolina led us in a leaf printing class held at the Community House on Lois Lane in Barrington. We had 7 members in attendance, wearing masks and social distancing. Different ferns, feathers collected and different papers, notecards to print on were used. Great time, thank you Karolina. We held a short meeting before doing the leaf prints. Officers changed and were voted on and we discussed upcoming events. Changes to officers are; Margery Sheppard- President, Lydia Cupp- vice president, JoAnn Pearson- treasurer, Cindi Harrington- secretary.</p><p>November 21,2020- Bloomers met at JoAnn Pearson's for wreath making. Everyone brought their own wreath rings and ribbons and shared different greens, berries, grasses and dried plants to decorate with. There were 11 happy wreath makers including JoAnns family. Picture is on our web page</p><p>December 12,2020- Holiday Yankee Swap/cookie exchange held in the rec center parking lot. 9 members attended and the weather held out for us. We also donated to the Food Pantry with personal care items from each member. The director was there and took the items and was very pleased. Even wrote us a beautiful thank you note we received later. There were no cut-throat exchanges during the Yankee Swap so everyone was pleased with their picks. The cookie swap had some fabulous cookies bagged and ready to exchange. Great fun and I think it was a very creative idea with the covid situation to hold it in the trunks of our cars outside.</p><p>Jan 20.2021- Held a zoom meeting. Discussion of up coming projects including paint projects, pop-up garden tours starting in the months of April/May through Sept/Oct. </p><p>February 17,2021- Zoom meeting, 7 members Maureen Sawicki and Karen Towne did a discussion about the use of the library, and was looking for feedback as to ideas for getting people involved in all the things the library does for Barrington and its residents. List of some mentioned; notary, community center, tech support help with Covid issues, tax help, meetings, classes plus so much more.</p><p>March 17,2021- Zoom meeting, 5 members in attendance. TinyTileMosiacs.com worked on by those that had purchased ahead of the class. Items discussed date for "Books in Bloom" now will be held in August or Sept, more info to come.</p><p>Dates/events to come </p><p>Alfalfa Seed growing kits are available compliments of the Barrington Bloomers for the Make and Take at the library. </p><p> April 17 spring garden cleanup, 9 to noon</p><p> April 21 Wednesday 6:30 to 7:30 zoom demo with Meg Herndon on starting annuals and spices from seed. pre-order her kits from mherndon.com Kits can be picked up at Margery's, 97 Birch Lane, Barrington the week of April 12th. If need assistance contact: Margery at Oddjobsmom@gmail.com</p><p> April/May pop up garden tours. Show us your beautiful gardens in the spring time </p><p> May23 Sunday at 3pm meet at Liz Riordan's Lilac Garden, 64 Brown Rd, Hampton Falls, 100 lilac varieties.</p><p>More will be posted on a 2021 calendar update coming soon</p><p> Thanks to all our Bloomers Cindi Harrington</p>Presidenthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15173494325140654406noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1983760981609966705.post-38553621224653193572020-09-04T18:41:00.000-04:002020-09-04T18:42:30.238-04:00<div class="gE iv gt" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; cursor: pointer; font-family: Roboto, RobotoDraft, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 0.875rem; padding: 20px 0px 0px;"><table cellpadding="0" class="cf gJ" style="-webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; border-collapse: collapse; display: block; font-size: 0.875rem; letter-spacing: 0.2px; margin-top: 0px; width: auto;"><tbody style="display: block;"><tr class="acZ xD" style="display: flex; height: auto;"><td colspan="3" style="margin: 0px;"><table cellpadding="0" class="cf adz" style="border-collapse: collapse; table-layout: fixed; white-space: nowrap; width: 1134px;"><tbody><tr><td class="ady" style="align-items: center; display: flex; line-height: 20px; margin: 0px; overflow: visible; text-overflow: ellipsis;"><div class="iw ajw" style="display: inline-block; max-width: 92%; overflow: hidden;"><br /></div><div aria-haspopup="true" aria-label="Show details" class="ajy" data-tooltip="Show details" id=":wm" role="button" style="align-items: center; border: none; display: inline-flex; justify-content: center; margin-left: 4px; outline: none; position: relative; vertical-align: top; z-index: 0;" tabindex="0"><img alt="" class="ajz" src="https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/images/cleardot.gif" style="background: url("https://www.gstatic.com/images/icons/material/system/1x/arrow_drop_down_black_20dp.png") center center / 20px no-repeat; border: none; cursor: pointer; display: flex; height: 20px; margin: 0px 0px 0px auto; opacity: 0.54; padding: 0px; position: relative; right: 0px; top: 0px; vertical-align: baseline; width: 20px;" /></div></td></tr></tbody></table></td></tr></tbody></table></div><div id=":x5" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Roboto, RobotoDraft, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;"><div class="qQVYZb"></div><div class="utdU2e"></div><div class="lQs8Hd" jsaction="SN3rtf:rcuQ6b" jscontroller="i3Ohde"></div><div class="btm"></div></div><div class="" style="background-color: white; color: #222222; font-family: Roboto, RobotoDraft, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;"><div class="aHl" style="margin-left: -38px;"></div><div id=":wl" tabindex="-1"></div><div class="ii gt" id=":uw" style="direction: ltr; font-size: 0.875rem; margin: 8px 0px 0px; padding: 0px; position: relative;"><div class="a3s aXjCH " id=":wk" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small; font-stretch: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; line-height: 1.5; overflow: hidden;"><div dir="ltr">Hi all. it's been an interesting summer with social distancing. June 15th planning a field trip to The Butterfly Place in Westford MA. It's about an hour and a half to get there and it's open 10 am to 4 pm. We will carpool and meet at the library/rec center parking lot at 9:30 am. admission is adults $13, seniors $11. There is a group rate but we have to have a minimum of 15 to qualify. There is no place to eat inside but they offer picnic tables for bringing your own lunch. There are places nearby to purchase food but not on the premises.<br />
July 24th we are planning a field trip to Berrybogg Blueberry Farm in Strafford, NH. We did this a few years ago and had a great time so it was requested we do it again. Hi Bloomers
Hope your all enjoying winter months right now, but remember it's only a little while longer before spring is in the air! Get out you garden books and magazines and start planning your new ideas for your gardens.
October 18,2017- Succulents, speaker was Strafford county Master Gardener; Jacqueline Brunn. 4 members in attendance for this meeting. she brought several types of succulents for us to plant and bring home. Propagation of succulents, easy to root. well drained potting soil/add sand or fine gravel. Allow the plant to dry out or put right into the soil and it will root itself. Biggest thing to remmeber is not to overwater. It stores water within it's fleshy leaves and is adapted to climates with minimal water. Another suggestion from her was to plant in driftwood with little bit of soil, and to also use glass beads as mulch in pots. Sources for succulents
UNH Greenhouse & Conservatory
Mountain Crest Gardens.com
Halls Ponds Gardens, ME
October 21, 2017- Town garden cleanup, 8 members in attendance
With the 8 members/husbands we were able to get done in only an hour and a half. Thanks to Jeff also for taking the debris away.
October 28, 2017- only one member showed up at the library for cleanup of their gardens. Please consider scheduling in these spring and fall cleanups as it goes by much quicker if we can all do a little.
Our November wreath making at Studleys had to be canceled as we did not get enough participation. Joann Pearson had a couple of us over to make wreaths at her place. We all brought greens and berries and wire rings. Her son and his family joined us and we had a wonderful time.
December 6, 2017- Bloomers had our annual Holiday gathering at Lynn's house. We had 8 people in attendance. Had a beautiful potluck meal, then did our Yankee Swap which I think everyone was happy with their gifts. Everyone brought donations for the food pantry that Lynn delivered for us.
January 20, 2018- We had the first of two sessions class for fairy houses made of pottery with Ruth Caron at Pottery Paddock in Rochester. There were 4 in attendance. Cost was $25 per session. Everyone had a wonderful time working with the clay and each house ended up so cute and all so different. Our last session was on Februrary 1st, to glaze and paint details.
February 21, 2018- We will be meeting at the library at 6:30pm for a talk about composting with Roz Mason, master gardener with UNH. Hope to see you there
We have some things we are looking into for the coming months, but haven't pinned them down yet. Will email with updates closer to the dates. Till next time enjoy the last of the winter months ahead and "Think Spring"

Happy Spring everyone!. welcome to another "black fly season".<br />
We ended our year with a Bloomers Christmas Gathering at Lynn Desharnis's house. We had 9 members in attendance, with a yankee swap. Donations for the food pantry were brought in by attending members. Had a wonderful time and the food from Lynn and side dishes from others was very yummy. Thank You Lynn for a wonderful time.<br />
Our January meeting had to be canceled because of icy conditions, so our next meeting was in February, 15 our speaker was Richard Kahn of Kahn Landscaping in Hudson NH. Richard gave a demonstration for automatic plant watering systems using organic and repurposed materials. Very interesting and we even got a few members hands on making the bottled watering systems. there were 10 total people for this presentation. You can check out the plans for this at www.kahnlandscaping.com, or call Richard at 877-205-1077 for more information. We had a quick meeting about future speakers, and field trips for upcoming months. We are always looking for new ideas of places to go or people to bring in for our meetings, anyone with ideas please let us know. At the end of the meeting we presented Kim and Jeff Langevin with a thank you gift card for all the extra hard work they have done at the town garden and at the post office. They took it upon themselves to plant and maintain the post office landscaping, and also did mowing around the town garden all season long, thanks to you both great job!<br />
March,15 our speaker was Karolina Bodner. She brought supplies for us to make "origami Lillies". Everyone had a wonderful time, there were 9 members in attendance. Thanks Karolina<br />
April 19 our speaker was Camden Lee Tillinghast, high school senior working on her gold award for girl scouting. She chose to write a book about the Karner Blue Butterfly,"Saving KB". Amazing young lady learned all she could about the Karner butterfly and set up learning tools for schools to use with children to teach about this endangered species. Her book was not only written by her but also illustrated with amazing artwork of the butterfly. She visited the Karner Blue Butterfly easement in Concord and learned that they only eat the wild lupine flower leaves and that habitat is very limited for the butterfly. Very enjoyable speaker. we had 10 members and others in attendance.<br />
April 20 we had the new sculture for the town garden installed by Angela Sarni art teacher at Barrington middle School, and the artist in residence Mark Ragonise who worked with the art students to make a sculture for our town garden. It is beautiful and we have had a lot of posivtive feedback. Ron and Diane St Jean photograghers for the Fosters paper came to take pictures of the installation of the sculture.<br />

April 29 was the cleanup of the library garden and again only had 3 in attendance. did 1 & 1/2 hours at the library then we went to the town garden to spread the mulch that was donated by the new business Great View in Barrington. The business has just opened with lots of big plans for expansion. If you show your a member of Barrington Bloomers you will get a discount of 10% on mulchs, soils,etc..Check it out<br />
Lynn made arrangements for 4 pots that were donated from the Federal Saving Bank to go to the Emergency Center and the Tranfer Station. We will fill with plants from the FOTL sale and the pots will be maintained from the places after that. It never hurts to beautify places around Barrington!<br />

Meeting Notes</div>
<div>
Hello fellow bloomers</div>
<div>
We had a great turnout for our trip to the Isles of Shoals on August 8th.There were 29 bloomers and friends who attended. Mark Wiley from the UNH Docent Marine Lab was our guide with about 6 other docent volunteers. We had excellent weather, which made it even more enjoyable. On the trip out we were shown specimans from the ocean and did a collection of "sea life" in the water. We were transported to Appledore by the "Gulf Challenger". We split up onto two groups and went to tour the Island, the Shoals Marine Lab and Celia Thaxters garden. We stopped for lunch and then switched so we all got to see everything. When we departed the Island we went around the back of the Shoal's to observe the seals with rest on Duck Island. We then proceeded to head around White Island which has the lighthouse that Celia Thaxter grew up on with her family. It was time to head back but we spotted the whale watchers boat between the Shoals and the Plum Island area, and as we approached there was a Minke Whale being followed. We got back to New Castle a little later than planned, but everyone was excited for the extra sighting of the whale.</div>
<div>
Have received many positive comments about the trip. The Bloomers garden club did a donation of $50 to the UNH Marine Docents program.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

Sept 17th 8 members in attendance</div>
<div>
Adam Pearson presented a proposal for UNH Art students to construct a sculpture for our town garden in the spring. They have toured the garden and two other sights and will begin the sculptures. It was decided to place a cement slab at the sight to secure next years and future sculptures. $100 was given to Adam to pour the cement foundation. We will be doing a donation to the Art Dept in the spring. Adam will also be coming back as a speaker about Garden Sculptures. Thank you Adam for all you've done for us.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
October 15th 12 in attendance</div>
<div>
"Dr Tomato" aka David O'Conner came to talk about "Hydroponics Gardening"</div>
<div>
basics; non living medium vs living medium</div>
<div>
retain water aeration/ pros bigger yield/ shorter time/ target feeding</div>
<div>
talked about container gardening with constant delivery of food. He said not to use garden soil as it turns to brick, compacting with no aeration/fluff. Feeding with hydroponics solution such as Floranova gives a more constant feed than say an every two weeks with a Miracle grow too up and down for plant root growth. most criticle is the PH level which should be 6.5 in a ground garden, 6 in a pro-mix container, and 5.5 in water</div>
<div>
Recommended reading " Gardening Indoors with Soil & Hydroponics"</div>
<div>
As always we ran out of time with many questions for "Dr Tomato". Guess we'll just have to have him back again soon!!</div>

I will be sending out a thank you to Fred Knight for mowing the area around the town garden which helps to make it look great.</div>
<div>

Beautiful tour of JoAnn's gardens after the class.</div>

We did not receive any nominations for a sculpture this year so last year's winner's sculpture will remain in the garden for this summer. talk to your creative friends and family to get something to enter for next years sculpture contest . If they win the selection they could get $200 and have their art displayed for the season in the town garden.</div>

<br />
8 Members in attendance<br />
<br />
JoAnn lead the meeting at the library, as Lynn was attending her daughters wedding in California. She asked us all to tell what each of us had success with or problems with in our own gardens this summer. Each time someone said something about their own garden it would set off a discussion from others with the same problem or success. It was very interesting what other gardeners did.<br />
<br />
It was mentioned that the library will let us make announcements about our meetings on their board outside a week before we meet. Hope this helps to attract new members that may not know when or where we meet<br />
<br />
We had election of officers<br />
JoAnn- President<br />
Lynn- Vice President<br />
Coleen-Treasurer<br />
Cindi- Secretary<br />
<br />
Thank you to Lynn for being president for the last two years. Great job!<br />
<br />
Dues were collected, now only $10 yearly, from members in attendance. It was brought to our attention that with membership to the garden club you can get discounts from area garden centers, such as Elf's in Rochester gives 10% discount. Coleen will be printing up membership cards for paid members to use at various garden centers.<br />
<br />
Coleen gave the treasurers report. It costs $50 a year for us to have a PO Box and it was decided we need to have one place for mail as officers change. We will have a second key made so two officers will be able to retrieve mail as needed. <br />
<br />
Coleen has started her Master Gardener course, good luck to you Coleen<br />
<br />
Cindi will write a thank you card to Paula Blanchette at the Federal Savings Bank for the $200 donation for the Art Sculpture in the garden contest. The recipient for this year was Adam Pearson. Congratulations Adam. We will have a picture of Adam with his sculpture in the garden. Have had many compliments on both the garden and the sculpture.<br />
<br />
JoAnn is checking into having Edward Roy from Urban Tree Service for our October meeting. He will do a presentation about Winter Interest Trees.<br />
Heather is looking into O'Donnals Nursery for small trees/ shrubs care for Nov<br />
Reminder about the Wolfboro Garden Club invite to see Matthew Mead that Lynn had sent out earlier. It is for Tuesday, Nov 12th at St Katherine Drexel Church in Alton<br />
December is our Christmas Potluck, anyone interested in hosting?<br />
January we will do our prep work for advertising for new sculpture for town garden<br />
Any ideas for spring speakers or field trips bring to next meeting. We are looking into a possible <br />
Celia Thaxter Garden tour at the Isles of Shoals for garden club members.<br />
<br />
