Hello Bloomers!
See the calendar at left for upcoming meetings and fieldtrips.
On Wed. Jan 14, the Town Garden sub-committee held a meeting to organize and plan out the garden sign (Bloomers sign/donors), the art/sculpture for the garden as well as figuring out where we could place donation "flower pots" around town. We came up with a plan/calendar for the art/sculpture that we would like to incorporate into the garden. Members will be coming up with a letter and posters announcing to local artists (and possibly) to all artists in NH that we will be conducting a "design competition." We are figuring that the sculpture/art work will be unveiled in May 2009. (See calendar for more info on the upcoming meeting about the art work.) The Bloomers will all get to vote on their favorite design at the April 18th meeting/fieldtrip! We are planning a meeting with Susan from Artstream in Rochester for this Wednesday at 7:00pm to go over the details for the artists, etc. If you would like to come please email me as we will be carpooling to Rochester. ** Please note: this may be cancelled due to the possibility of a large amount of snow that is expected on Wednesday. **
Nancy is working on having Paul Tukey come for a community wide presentation on Organic Lawn Care. Details are tbd. Plans are to split the cost between the Strafford Garden Club and maybe Lee. I am looking into where we can hold this event-- possibly the new middle school (centrally located, easy to find) or the Bow Lake Grange Hall. It was also mentioned maybe coordinating with UNH. I'll keep you all posted!
We have a donation from the Barrington Town Library-- a VHS tape "Garden Birds of America." I have the copy and will bring it to the next meeting along with our binder of collected information. The video can be taken home if you'd like to watch it. Thanks to the town library!
Speaking of a donation from the library-- I thought maybe we can look into purchasing a book or two on the subject of gardening, something that they don't currently have or are in the need of. Since we use the library for most of our meetings it would be a nice thing to do : )
