February 18, 2009 meeting notes...

Speaker:
Amanda Turner, Merrymeeting Gardens
Topic: Shade Plants with helpful information and a handout for everyone. Listed plants that do well in shade gardens and she brought in sample plants. We will be meeting on April 15th at Merrymeeting Gardens for a container gardening class. Bring up to 4 containers, you will be able to purchase the soil and plants from Amanda during the class. We will learn how to group complimentary plants together for the containers. The plants/containers will remain with her until established to be picked up by Mothers Day. Homework assignment: Go through magazines now thru April for Ideas for container gardens, bring cutout pictures with you.

Our next meeting is March 18 at the Library. Lauren Chase Rowell will be doing a presentation on "Gardening at the Water's Edge and Water Gardens"

Town Garden - Sculpture- waiting for Approval by the town, Marilyn will be checking into this for us. Some met last Wednsday with Artstream for info about how to go about this. We will have a press release going out this week in the newspapers looking for artists interested in placing their art work at the town garden. Posters will also be put up. If you have a place in mind to put one let Nancy know! Sign for the garden is still being designed. Will have donation flower pots around at stores and other local businesses. (A craft session will be held soon to decoupage/decorate the pots-- will send out another email in the near future regarding this...)

The planning board has nominated Barrington Bloomers for the "2008 NH Arboritis Association Community Beautification Awards Program" for the town garden! Marilyn, Coleen and Nancy met last Thursday to put together the application.
