Hello Gardeners! Hope you and your gardens are flourishing in this nice summertime weather!
May 17 2010. Special business meeting held at Nancy's house to discuss upcoming events and tons of other stuff including:
On May 15th we had a pretty good showing for the town garden cleanup. Jim Rivet brought a load of organic fertilizer and mulch to finish up with after the cleanup. At 11:30 we held a dedication for our new sculpture entered by Nancy's Dad, Werner Kanner, titled "Migration." It really is beautiful with the garden and the sculpture. The sculpture has drawn much interest and is currently for sale-- so much so, maybe we should have an auction? ideas? A few members expressed interest in a single bird-- please let me know who you are (Coleen I know you are one, but can't remember what metal you were hoping for) and what kind of metal you'd prefer (steel, brass or aluminum). I can let you know a price according to metal used. Nancy will send a press release and photo to Foster's.
Saturday May 22
We had a few show up to help with the Library garden cleanup. Successfully accomplished! Marilyn and Barb picked up a plant to donate, "knock-out" rose bush, for the library gardens to fill in the hole out front by the walkway. Coleen picked up a couple of plants for the sign garden at the town fire and police building.
June 5th
"Friends of the Library" plant sale at the town rec hall/gym under the library. Would love to see some of the Bloomers there to show support and maybe help out for a few hours. The friends of the library could also use some help with the set-up Friday night. If anyone is available it would be appreciated. Contact Marilyn at 664.9028 Looking for donations of plants , if you have any drop them off Friday after 2pm till about 6pm. Representing the Bloomers on Saturday will be: Nancy, Kim, Cindi-- anyone else like to come and help with gardening Q&A as well as promote our group for an hour or so? Let me know asap: barringtonbloomers@metrocast.net
June 16
We have a field trip to the Fuller Gardens for a presentation about success with roses and a tour of the gardens. Car poolers meet at the town gym parking lot by 5:45pm to be at Fuller Gardens by 6:30-6:45. This will be free for members, $10 for non-members to cover the cost of admission and presentation. So far we have coming: Barb, Kim, Coleen, Nancy, Cindi, Lynn and Heather. Email Heather asap if you are interested in coming: heathacarney@yahoo.com
July 21
Field trip to Anna Kays Day Lily (and Peony) gardens on Route 9 in Dover (across from the UPS road entrance). Time tbd. Let Marilyn know if you would like to come and if your are interested in carpooling from the town gym. marilyn@metrocast.net or 664.9028. So far we have coming: Marilyn, Nancy
Sign-ups for maintaining the garden will be going out on e-mail (see below--only 3 weeks are open!--add your name and reply to nancy/this email with the dates you would like to donate your time). It worked out well last year everyone signs up for a week during the summer, and then we all meet in November for fall cleanup. Lindy has contacted the town to start watering for the year.
September will be a meeting to vote for officers, as Nancy is stepping down as president and Coleen who is vice president now will take over as president which leaves the vp slot open. JoAnn has expressed interest in helping out as VP... The officers currently are: President- Nancy, changing over to Coleen in June, VP- Coleen, soon to be vacant, Treasurer - Lynn, Secretary - Cindi. There will be no speaker for the Sept 15 meeting as it will be free time for voteing, organizing, gardening Q&A etc... Dues will be $10 for a year instead of $20 with this economy and we hope to attract new members-- spread the word to friends!
We will be donating a garden book to the library, for the use of the libray for our meetings. Nancy to contact Amy Inglis.
The donation pots will be back out at local businesses soon. It was very successful last year, let's hope we have another good response this year. New lids need to be made--Nancy will make them up soon.
If you have any ideas for a subject, speaker or field trip let Coleen know! plaquedestroyer@yahoo.com
It was bought up that we will have for purchase a Barrington Bloomers Decal! Price somewhere between $4 and $6. Coming soon...
