Meeting Notes for August 1, 2007

Meetings: 3rd Wednesday of each month at 6:30 at the Barrington Library (unless noted)

Next Meeting:September 19

There will be a quick business meeting before the speaker. On the agenda: plan November 28 social and December 1 wreath making event, create a Town Gardens Subcommittee, annual dues of $20 will be collected and if we have time... start to work on a mission statement (bring your ideas).
Speaker: Jenny Fales, the designer and caretaker of the Barrington Library gardens, will chat about the plants and design of the gardens. She will also be available to answer any gardening questions. Rain or shine.
A seed swap will close out the meeting... bring up to 3 baggies/envelopes of seeds that you have collected from your garden to swap, you'll go home with as many as you bring!

October 17th at 6:30pm, Barrington Library. Jim Berry, Master Gardener will present "Putting your garden to bed." A business meeting will precede our guest.

Notes:
Dues: The group agreed upon $20 per year from September-August. New members joining throughout the year would get dues pro-rated. All family members included in the $20 amount. A bank account will be opened (Christine looking into info at Federal Savings). Members are asked to find plant retailers that would be willing to give members a discount. E-mail Nancy with any takers. A membership card would be a nice idea with a logo (Nancy working on- if you have any ideas please e-mail Nancy).

Miscellaneous:
Fellow Gardening Clubs: Ideas from other clubs were shared, including using planters and brochure ideas
Town Gardens Subcommittee: seeking members at September meeting, group to meet with town and begin the process of beautifying Barrington, and possibly plan gardens in winter months
Town Common Lindy (and her husband!) will be putting together an article for the next issue of the town common. This issue is due out in early Sept.

The meeting ended with a great gardeners forum where members shared photos, resources and questions, refreshments, seed-swap and of course…

Next meeting:
Wednesday, September 19th at 6:30 (Bring Dues)
with snacks provided by Marilyn (Sept), Lynn (Oct)
